Electric heating pads and electric blankets have warnings of the potential for burns, electric shock and fire. Hot water bottles can leak or burst leaving behind a hot, wet, damaging mess and gel packs...often burst or leak goo. Body Soothers are reusable, heatable, freezable rice packs that are easily heated in a microwave or cooled in a freezer. No leaks. No shocks. No messes. Only soothing comfort.

Heated, they are useful for easing the pain of sore muscles, fibromyalgia, arthritis, menstrual cramps, headaches, earaches, toothaches, chest colds, fever chills, mild sore infections, etc. They are also useful as bed or foot warmers, bottom warmers when placed on a cold car seat, body warmers under a blanket when in couch potato mode or when sitting around a camp fire on a cool summer night. Just a couple of minutes in a microwave (around 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes, depending on the microwave and size of the soother) and the soothers will stay warm for the recommended 15 - 20 minutes or longer. If the microwave doesn’t have a turntable, flipping the soother half way through is recommended. Play with it until you get it just right. Occasionally placing a cup of water in the microwave with the soother helps prevent the rice from drying, which it tends to do after repeated use in a dry environment but doesn't affect their heating/cooling ability.

For a cold soother, keep one in your freezer at all times to use for sore eyes, sprains, strains, swelling, bumps, bruises, hot flashes, mild heat exhaustion and bloody noses. It remains soft and molds around joints, not like frozen packages of peas, a hard cooler ice pack or towel wrapped ice cubes. Cold slows down blood flow to an injury - slows circulation - thereby reducing inflammation (swelling), muscle spasm and pain. When cooling in the freezer, keep them in a plastic bag to prevent them from taking on freezer odour. Of special note is that rice soothers transition easily from freezer to microwave for soothing hot moist therapy that is often recommended by physiotherapists.
